Located in the heart of downtown Seattle and serving a population of curious, open-minded, and brave audiences, ACT is the only local theatre dedicated to producing contemporary work with promising playwrights and local performing artists since 1965.
We are a cultural engine that makes plays, dance, music, and film that touch us through our annual Mainstage Play series and new works generated from the Young Playwrights Program, ACTLab, and New Works for the American Stage commissioning program. ACT Theatre’s Development Department seeks an energetic Annual Fund Manager to join our team. The Annual Fund Manager will oversee a comprehensive, strategic and integrated effort to build ACT Theatre’s individual donor base, with particular attention paid to donors giving between $1,000 and $5,000. You will develop and implement an annual plan that incorporates a range of strategies including annual direct mail and tele-funding appeals, upgrades, donor stewardship and special events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage ACT Theatre’s annual fund individual donor acquisition, cultivation and stewardship through direct mail, online and tele-fund solicitations and communications.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for cultivating, acquiring and stewarding current and potential individual donors.
  • Identify, qualify and attract individual annual donors into Encore and Producers Circle Levels of the ACT Partner program.
  • Manage process and collaborate with Major Gifts Manager and the Director of Development on the annual fund solicitation strategies of trustees, campaign donors, high-end annual fund donors and prospective campaign or high-end donors.
  • Work within Tessitura database to develop reports, segment audience and analyze data and patterns. Use data to increase targeting and efficiency of message and strategy for unique constituencies.
  • Develop campaign branding and write copy for all ACT Partner program and Annual Fund activities, including direct mail appeals, e-marketing, web copy, stories and related copy for ACT programs, brochure copy, and acknowledgement letters.
  • Supervise the Development Coordinator, in project managing the donor gift acknowledgement process, including donor benefit tracking, recognition and stewardship activities.
  • Develop strategic tele-funding activities, fully coordinated with ticket and subscription sales efforts. Manage outside vendor relationship; develop script, premium opportunities and fulfillment.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing Department to develop and produce high-quality print and electronic materials.
  • Guide the Development Coordinator in producing annual donor stewardship events, including Opening Night Dinners, Tech Talks, and the Annual Garden Party.
Educational Background:
Bachelor of Arts
  • 3 plus years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with specific experience in individual giving and/or membership programs.
  • Strong, hands-on experience in event planning, especially donor-centric cultivation events.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience as a volunteer at non-profit organization and/or a member of a non-profit board a plus.
  • Active participation in Seattle’s arts and culture a plus.
  • Passion for the performing arts.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment and ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and move multiple projects forward simultaneously is essential.
  • Expertise in MS Office and Tessitura.
  • This position is required to attend events throughout the year outside of business hours, including evenings and weekends.
