Job Summary

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for generating major gifts ($1,000 and above) to meet annual Resource Development Department Goal. The Major Gifts Officer coordinates the planning and implementation of strategies and activities related to securing between $900,000 and $1.2M in major and annual gifts in order to address programmatic and agency funding needs for Solid Ground.

Essential Responsibilities, Duties & Tasks

60%     Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors (60-80). Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:

  • Identify major gift prospects through research and networking
  • Initiate contacts with potential major gift donors
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies, working closely with the Resource Development Director, CEO, and other staff
  • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely manner toward solicitation and closure
  • Make solicitations when appropriate
  • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors, including all donor recognition
  • Support the Resource Development Director and CEO in their donor management including creating customized stewardship plans, nudge reports, and providing language (such as drafting emails and other correspondence.)
  • Record all interactions in the donor database to ensure knowledge retention

The Major Gifts Officer also participates in the design of the annual luncheon and other fundraising events, including informing audience strategies, recruiting table captains etc. Oversee annual individual fundraising activities including Solid Ground Annual Campaign, Major Gift Solicitations, and others. Develop fundraising strategies to generate major gifts to Solid Ground, and provide direction to the individual giving strategy, implement fundraising activities, and provide support for specific program areas. Help develop and implement strategies designed to recognize and retain donors. Conduct agency site visits and tours for prospective and current Solid Ground donors.

20%     Supervise the Annual Giving Officer (AGO) to ensure maximum engagement of all mid-level donors and prospects. Manage the system-side of the Annual donor segment of individual giving work. Supervise the AGO to synthesize donor data to create target lists, prioritize donors and allocation of resources directed towards various cultivation and stewardship strategies. Support the AGO in maintaining a portfolio of donors.

10%     Work closely with the Resource Development Director to identify potential board or committee volunteers and to lay the groundwork for potential multi-year campaign efforts. Develop relationships with Solid Ground programs in order to be fluent with donor prospects about program impacts and needs. Work closely with the Director of Development as well as members of the Board Resource Development Committee, Board of Directors, and other high-level agency volunteers to develop and implement strategies to generate Transformational, Endowed, Planned and Other Campaign gifts.

5%       Participate in program, department and agency meetings and relevant training as required.

5%       Partner with the Communications department to develop materials related to Resource Development and Transformational, Endowed, Planned and other Campaign efforts.
