Leadership Tomorrow’s (LT) mission is to cultivate, inspire, connect and engage an effective community of leaders.  LT offers a unique and highly-admired approach to civic leadership development.  Graduates of Leadership Tomorrow have a deeper understanding of the issues that shape the Puget Sound region, are inspired to get engaged in their communities and have the leadership skills necessary to get things done.

Each year, LT selects 80 candidates from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors to participate in the 10-month program.  Founded in 1982, there are over 2,000 graduates who serve as appointed or elected officials, lead nonprofit organizations and corporations, and serve as volunteers and community stewards. No matter how or where they serve, LT alumni are leaving their mark and making the Puget Sound Region a better place to live and work for current and future generations. LT is a vital part of the overall effort to ensure that the pool of talent from which the region can draw its future leaders continues to be renewed.

Position Summary:

Reporting to Leadership Tomorrow’s Executive Director, the Program Manager has overall responsibility for managing and implementing the annual, year-long participant program and provides support for events and activities for LT alumni.  Areas of responsibility include meeting facilitation, communications and support for the program participants, coaches and the LT Curriculum Committee, and logistical support of all aspects of the program and the LT Board and LT committees. The Program Manager position interfaces with both internal and external key stakeholders, and provides the opportunity to oversee all aspects of program management, both tactical and strategic.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Committee support:  Works collaboratively with the LT Curriculum Committee to develop and implement the annual curriculum, including facilitating all planning team meetings for the two overnight retreats, eight, day-long Challenge Days (class forums), and all leadership lab team activities for 80 program participants.
  • Curriculum Development:  Keeps current on relevant community issues facing the region for programming purposes, adult learning strategies and techniques, and cutting-edge curriculum development strategies, relevant to Leadership Tomorrow’s mission.
  • Coaches: Directs the activities of the lab team coaches throughout the year including communicating regularly with the coaches and helping to facilitate the coaches’ meetings.  Serves as the liaison between the Curriculum Committee and the lab team coaches.
  • Facilitation and Training: Facilitates the planning team meetings with volunteers to design the Challenge Days, offers suggestions for curriculum design that enhances the participation, involvement and application of the classes’ learning, and manages the evaluation of the program.
  • Event Planning:  Works with the Executive Director and Marketing & Alumni Relations Manager to execute all Leadership Tomorrow events.
  • Strategic Planning and Evaluation:  Works with Executive Director to implement LT’s Strategic Planning initiatives, including annual evaluation of the program and its impact on participants, graduates, employers, and the community.
  • Administrative:  Works with the Curriculum Committee to prepare meeting agendas and materials for committee and sub-committee meetings.  Corresponds on a regular basis with LT participants, board members, guest speakers and appropriate committees regarding monthly Challenge Days, assignments, upcoming events and meetings. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with volunteer leadership, cooperate with colleagues and provide effective leadership for staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and to design and implement educational programs on a wide variety of regional issues
  • Experience with adult learning techniques, curriculum design and organizational development highly desirable
  • Superior listening and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to exercise leadership and initiative
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills; ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including staffing early morning meetings and occasional evening events
  • Flexibility and a willingness to accept new assignments and challenges
  • Demonstrated computer skills and aptitude; Microsoft Office highly desirable
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds required
  • Three to five years relevant experience, ideally in the fields of adult education, non-profit leadership, or similar.
  • At least two years program management experience; experience with volunteer-driven organization is a plus.
  • Familiarity with non-profit administration desirable
