Dogs for Better Lives (DBL) is seeking a President/Chief Executive Officer. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors, which is comprised of a group of 8 individuals with professional backgrounds in a variety of fields including business, accounting, finance, healthcare, real estate, human resources and non-profit management. All share a passion for the mission of DBL.

The successful candidate will be operationally skilled, strategically focused executive with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. The CEO willbe able to work with leaders and staff achieving results through building effective teams. Expertise and a track record of growing a successful non-profit enterprise are necessary.

Dogs for Better Lives (DBL) is a national award winning 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been rescuing and professionally training assistance dogs since 1977. DBL depends solely on individuals, businesses and groups for funding and does not receive any government funding. United Way funding comes solely in the form of designated gifts by individuals.

Annual revenues of DBL are just over $3 million and the organization has assets of approximately $15 million. Charitable giving through bequests constitutes a significant funding source.  DBL employs 35 staff members and is supported by a separate group of approximately 30 volunteers and 78 ambassadors throughout the nation.   

The past two years DBL has been named a Top 100 Best Non-Profit to Work For in Oregon by Oregon Business. Every year since 2013 DBL has earned a 4 Star Rating from Charity Navigator recognizing their financial health and accountability.  DBL’s standards of excellence in training and placement of dogs exceeds Assistance Dogs International standards.

Education and Experience  
o  A Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
o  Preference will be given to an Advanced Academic degree
o  A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated progressive leadership
o  A minimum of five years of successful management in a nonprofit organization with donor-designated funding
Other Preferred Qualifications
o  Demonstrated passion for helping others by using dogs to accomplish such assistance. 

The position requires requires approximately 30% travel to promote DBL's mission through conferences, national events and development.
