GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Rainbow Center (RC) was established in 1997 with the goal of providing a safe resource referral and gathering space for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and allied community. That mission is just as pertinent now as it was then. In the community we provide education resources, act as advocates and work to celebrate our unique histories.  
As a community center, the RC provides outreach and education on LGBTQ cultural competency, advocacy services for victims of crimes, and volunteer opportunities. We also provide meeting space for more than 11 community partners and host the annual Tacoma Pride Festival.
Over 100 people from all different backgrounds make use of the RC on a weekly basis, with visitors predominantly from Pierce, King, Kitsap, and Thurston counties. Please look online for more information www.rainbowcntr.org

SCOPE OF WORK:
The Fund Development Assistant, under the direct supervision of the Rainbow Center Director of Development, is responsible for the following:
 
Fund Development:
·         Provide significant support for major Rainbow Center hosted events such as the annual Tacoma Pride Festival and the Black & White Gayla.
·         Coordinate donor communications such as RSVPs and ticket sales, newsletters, email blasts, and donor acknowledgement.
·         Coordinate sponsor and event vendor communications, including processing vendor and sponsor payments.
·         Coordinate sponsor recognition materials, including banners, signage, website placement, catalogues, etc. 
·         Assist with the preparation of fund development materials, including grants and sponsor documentation and requests.
·         Assist with the production of promotional merchandise.
 
Volunteer Management:
·         Recruiting, screening, interviewing and training of new volunteers for both ongoing activities and one-time events.
·         Providing ongoing support to ensure volunteers are successful in their positions.
·         Ensure that volunteer check-in procedures are followed and records of volunteer hours are maintained according to established procedures.
·         Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities.
·         Creates monthly reports of volunteer participation and maintains volunteer files which will track individual applications, background checks, and other paperwork as needed.
 
The Fund Development Assistant is responsible for the following activities directed related to the general operation of the RC:
·         Responds to inquiries, phone calls, and e-mail in a timely and responsive manner.
·         Participate in various meetings, including weekly staff meetings.
·         As part of the RC staff team, model and maintain a safe and respectful environment during center drop-in hours and ensure that RC visitors and volunteers follow established rules and boundaries. 
·         Provide staff support and attend Tacoma Pride Festival and the Black & White Gayla.
·         Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
·         Outgoing personality with high level of comfort meeting new people, engaging in social situations, working in collaboration with others, and empowering community leaders.
·         Experience, ability, desire, and commitment to work and identify with LGBTQ community of varying socioeconomic classes, identities, and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
·         Higher education degree and demonstrated success in a customer or direct service role. Two or more years of experience as volunteer manager or in fund development roles can substitute for education.
·         Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, organization, and resourcefulness.
·         Ability to work well under stressful conditions, negotiate different personalities, and work under competing priorities while managing a wide variety of tasks.
·         Must be prompt and dependable.
·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
·         Ability to work independently and with limited supervision and as a team member.
·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office required, and Google Drive preferred (including Gmail, Google Docs, etc.), as well as experience using development databases.
·         Capable of passing a Washington State Patrol background check.
HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position, totaling 40 hours per week, including some evening and weekend hours. Attendance at evening meetings and outreach work are key components of this position.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour depending on applicable experience. Eleven paid holidays, paid vacation & sick leave, and flexible schedule. Employer paid health, vision, and dental plan.
