Sound Outreach is seeking candidates for our next Executive  Director. Preference for submissions received by January 24.

The Sound Outreach Board seeks a visionary leader to guide this growing, innovative non-profit agency. Sound Outreach provides compassionate guidance and beneficial tools for individuals and communities to move from financial insecurity to financial wellness and prosperity. We help clients gain access to traditional banking products and services through financial education, counseling, credit building and credit repair. This position reports directly to the Board of Directors.
 
We seek an entrepreneurial leader who can ensure that the agency’s operations run smoothly and support our talented team of 20+ employees with outstanding development and training. The Executive Director will be an evangelist for Sound Outreach and advocate in the community for breaking social and institutional barriers that impact marginalized and low-income communities. The Board provides strategic guidance, appropriate financial oversight, and acts as advocates and resource-raisers within the community.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Organization Mission and Strategy

  • Ensure that Sound Outreach’s programs and operations remain consistent with the mission and assure that mission is being met through the programs offered.
  • Plan and oversee strategic planning to ensure that Sound Outreach can successfully fulfill its mission in the near term and over time.
  • Introduce innovative concepts, programs, and operating methods to enhance a culture of continuous improvement.
Community Relations and Public Outreach
  • Serve as primary spokesperson for Sound Outreach, acting as an “evangelist” for Sound Outreach’s work.
  • Oversee an effective communications program that creates a sense of excitement about Sound Outreach’s outcomes.
  • Develop relationships with community stakeholders, financial institutions, businesses, educational, government, philanthropic, and political leaders.
  • Enhance Sound Outreach’s image by being active and visible in the community.
  • Engage Board members to make introductions to influential individuals & organizations.
Operations Leadership and Management
  • Recruit and coach staff to meet performance outcomes.
  • Create and lead a workplace culture that nurtures, develops, and motivates staff members and work teams, many of whom work in satellite locations.
  • Maintain a working environment consistent with equity, diversity, and inclusion values.
  • Ensure sound human resource practices are followed.
  • Responsible for assuring data, facilities, security, and equipment needs are sufficient.
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
 Financial Performance and Viability
  • Ensure there are resources sufficient for the ongoing financial health of the organization (through grants, fundraising, fees, contracts, etc.).
  • Responsible for Sound Outreach’s fiscal integrity.
  • Provide the Board a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization; work closely with the Board’s Finance Committee.
  • Maintain official records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Board Management and Development
  • Support the recruitment, orientation, and retention of effective Board members.
  • Communicate effectively with the Board and provide timely, accurate information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Work with the Board to develop, implement and evaluate a long-term strategy for Sound Outreach.
  • Assist Board members in their efforts to promote Sound Outreach.
  • Work with the Board Chair to schedule, organize agendas and prepare materials for Board Meetings.
  • Work with Board Chair and Committee/Task Force Chairs to engage every Board member.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Executive management experience.
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial mind-set, ability to think out of the box, and the skills to manage the resources needed to keep an organization running.
  • Transparent and high-integrity leadership.
  • Passion for Sound Outreach’s mission.
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, budgeting, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Experience with — and excitement for — employee training and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff, community partners, board members and other volunteers.
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to convey a vision of Sound Outreach’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers, donors and community.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector.
