The Position: Recruiter (Independent Contractor)
The Foraker Group is seeking candidates for the position of Recruiter (independent contractor). The recruiter is a critical member of the Foraker Transitions: Search and Succession team. Under direction of the Team Lead, the Recruiter has lead responsibility for the outreach, networking, reference checking and other actions needed to develop a strong semi-finalist pool and finalist pool that meets the requirements of the client as they evolve through the Transitions process.  These searches will be primarily for executive and C-Suite positions, but may also include highly-specific staff leadership positions.

The Recruiter reports to the managing director/VP for Search and Transition and on specific engagements collaborates with the lead consultant/manager.

Members of the Foraker team (both staff and consultants) are leaders who embrace a team approach to systems change both in the way capacity building is considered and delivered. While almost all positions have an external and internal set of responsibilities, the revenue that is generated strengthens the overall ability for Foraker’s mission to be accomplished.
  • Responsible for recruitment duties on assigned searches under the direction of the Team Lead for the engagement.
  • Participate with Transitions team in developing position profile and search plan for the engagement tailored to the specific needs and requests of the client organization.
  • Robust outreach to develop a qualified and diverse candidate pool, utilizing the Foraker database and other networking as agreed for each search
  • Review candidates and complete preliminary ranking and review with Team Lead.
  • Under direction of Team Lead, complete screening interviews to support development of a finalist pool; prepare written report for Foraker and client
  • Participate by phone or in person in screening and/or final interviews where requested by Team Lead.
  • Complete reference and background checks and prepare written report for Foraker and client.
  • Complete close-out report with notes entered in Foraker database on candidates considered, interviewed and selected along with a general summary.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with other Foraker Transitions: Search and Succession team members.

Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to reflect Foraker values in interactions and communications with others
  • Proven track record in recruiting executive level candidates for nonprofit organizations or comparable positions
  • Proven ability to proactively do outreach and networking to develop and strengthen candidate pools for executive level positions or comparable
  • Demonstrated track record in recruiting diverse candidate pools and in developing racially and ethnically diverse semi-finalist and finalist pools
  • Superior ability to work within a team and see the value of a team while also working in a self-directed approach on specific projects
  • Ability to exercise flexibility, initiative, good judgment, and discretion
  • Demonstrated advanced oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong commitment to a relationship-based approach to work, including projecting a welcoming and helpful approach to all requests for assistance or information
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse people and organizations in rural and urban Alaska
  • Ability to treat others with respect and consideration regardless of status or position
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner

Qualifications: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a fast-paced environment with deliverables and attention to quality and relationships is required.  Proven track record as a successful professional recruiter or positions with transferrable skills (i.e., sales) is needed.  Prior experience with nonprofit organizations is preferred. Clear commitment and track record to recruiting and placing a diversified workforce that reflects the community and missions of the organizations we serve.  Central to success is a person who is collaborative and flexible in their approach to work; has a desire to provide excellent service, and is open to improving skills to support the nonprofit sector.
Compensation:  The recruiter is an independent contractor and compensated on an hourly basis based on hours authorized for each specific engagement.  Recruiter and the Foraker Team Lead agree on desired results, activities to achieve the results, and an up to maximum number of hours to be paid at an agreed rate for achieving these results. Changes in the results and/or the hours worked require mutual agreement of both parties.
