Job Description:

Building Changes seeks a Communications Associate to be the primary writer and project manager for Building Changes’ communications materials. This includes research reports, donor and public newsletters, and social media. With a commitment to racial equity and solutions that address homelessness, the Communications Associate will be tasked with proposing and elevating stories that showcase work around these topics.  This position reports to the Director of Policy and Strategic Communications and will be located at our office in Seattle.

Our Work
Building Changes pulls together government, philanthropy and nonprofits in a collective effort to impact homelessness in Washington State. We act as a driver for innovative strategies that help youth and families emerge out of homelessness and maintain stable housing.

Responsibilities will include:
• Plan, write, and edit various communications products and content for both internal and external audiences including reports, talking points, presentations, and digital content.
• Draft formal written products, such as case studies, to showcase Building Changes’ program, research, and policy work.
• Draft message platforms that concisely describe Building Changes’ work with uniformity across organizational communications products.
• Project manage donor and public communications products, including newsletters, social media, and other campaigns.
• Conduct content review for any written products to include copy-edits, citations, and style.
• Support development needs with proposal and grant application writing.
• Interview and elevate the voice of staff, youth, and families at site-specific locations across Washington State.
• Design and produce content for Building Changes and Schoolhouse Washington websites.
• Collaborate with partner organizations and government around coordinated messaging and communications products.
• Support and deepen relationships with media and communications channels.
• Translate complex research and data into public-facing reports. 

The successful candidate will have a combination of the following:
• Knowledge and experience in homelessness, housing, health, employment, and/or education sectors desired*
• Relationships and connection to communities of color and people with lived experience desired
• 3+ years’ experience in creating, editing, distributing strategic communications across all channels.
• 2+ years’ experience facilitating cross-team projects with focus and direction, tracking deliverables and achieving desired outcomes.
• Advanced ability to operate computers and related software programs, including software to manage email and marketing platforms (e.g. Salesforce and Campaign Monitor).
• Willingness to travel regularly within 60 miles of office and occasionally throughout the State and nationally.
*Note: In our effort to conduct an inclusive search for qualified candidates, this position does not require an advanced degree. Educational attainment will be considered along with other experience. Candidates must have demonstrated practice writing formal and persuasive communications materials. All candidates will be required to conduct a writing assignment as part of the application process.

Salary range for this position is $52,000 – 67,000. We offer excellent health, time off, retirement and other benefits.
